NP Vollmann's "Europe Central"

I think I know what he means by the academic voice... but more of a
layman's academic voice almost, if you get my drift.  It's like
sometimes, he really knows what he's talking about but he's afraid to
say it.  But on the other hand he knows that everything is subjective,
so he's trying to convey his point without alienating anyone.  At
least from what I've read in RURD.
