Mason and Dixon are both frightened by the lightning during a
thunderstorm. Mason goes to seek shelter under a wagon. Dixon stays in
his tent.
They have new orders to immediately return to the tangent point
and draw a five mile line north and south to define the northeast corner
of Maryland.
The remainder of the chapter is taken up with the younger crew
members' fascination with milkmaids. There are excerpts from the
journals of Murray and Nathe, and songs sung by the milkmaid extolling
the virtues of dairy products.
