There are great descriptions of the substance in the novels, but all characters and narrators are suspect.

Over the years I've had many attitudes toward the stuff and found confirmation for several of them in the pages of GR and Vineland. In catalyzing the mess that was PR3, the potent Southeast Asian bud did the students no favor;

and I wouldn't call the one-word description - "useful" - in the preface to Slow Learner a ringing endorsement. My table saw's useful, but not every day.

I will go out on a limb and opine that both paranoia and pot are given undue importance in appreciating Pynchon, though either theme would be a great thesis topic. But I think these are both eddies off the central current of his thought (that would be an even better thesis topic)

libertarian common sense leads me to hope and believe that eventually law will remand dope to the custody of individual discretion; so good cess to the marchers - but I would be shocked to see Pynchon at the event.

Yet (please, no offense meant, just a humorous thought) perhaps Mr Lan"nark" is a pseudonym for ???
