I love all of Guy Maddin's movies. If like pynchon, you mean that they are great works of art that are to be re-visisted, re-read and re-experienced, I couldn't agree more. They are all on my list. Archangel is great. The heart of the world can be viewed many times in sequence. His movies reference so much, that I am sure that you can watch them and find more obscure references, again and again.
He sometimes makes appearances at film festivals. If you get the chance to see him definately go, he is witty and personable.(he told a great story of how he "seduced" Isabella into doing to the movie. By watching great films with her over and over.) And the movies are much better with an audience. (I am such a dork that I got his autograph.)
(Those canadians must have a pretty good art scene. I am hearing about more and more good stuff from there all the time.)
Thanks for the utube link.

His book or essays, articles, et al, Tales from the
