What if the statue had come to us unbroken. Wouldn't we
still have recognized its (admittedly Western-style) beauty
and in end repaid that beauty by placing a clock in its belly?
Criticize the damn thing if you will, Toni, for being a WHITE
female, not for being an INCOMPLETE one.
Beloved is still a pretty important American novel.
