Jbor: Were you high, or were you just rendered less intelligent by knee-jerk
political correctness? Your defense of Toni Morrison's honor is duly noted,
but REALLY!

"Was you there, Charlie?" Um, unless I'm mistaken, Jbor didn't hear the
broadcast in question, so his assumption that Toni Morrison necessarily
spoke from insight and knowledge is based on... what? His deification of
a successful novelist? Perhaps one with whom he generally sympathizes?
That's nice, but it does not excuse his earlier combination of my original
message on the subject of TM with Mike Bailey's or:

"Morrison (an African-American woman) must have been either 'stoned' or
'ignorant.'" Ah, the last resort of the stoned or ignorant: the race/gender
card, even with no current or historical support for the implication. What
I wrote was "She didn't sound high, so she's just one of many made ignorant
and less intelligent by their, however earned, anger," i.e. if she'd sounded
high, or as you put it, "stoned," then impassioned rhetoric, however
debatable, would have been easier to accept as poetic license. Whatever
Morrison's knowledge of the fully limbed sculpting of the Venus de Milo may
have been, is there anyone who looks the Venus and pictures a woman without
limbs or head?! However much Benevenuto Cellini lauded the sexuality of
legless women, of the small percentage of the world that is even aware of
the Venus duh Milo, how many (until Morrison's sexualizing of it) have
considered violating that icon which, without the gesture of inviting eyes,
smile, or limbs, may very well be less sexual than the imagined original
intention of it's sculptor

How about criticizing some of the war memorials for NOT showing limbless
soldiers and headless collateral damage?
