Harry Mulisch 'The Discovery of Heaven', Michel Houellebecq 'Les Particules
Elementaires', William Godwin 'Caleb Williams' (arguably the first detective
novel in English), George Steiner 'After Babel' (a captivating though
somewhat dense exploration of language and translation), Umberto Eco 'Mouse
or Rat' (a captivating and not very dense exploration of language and
translation)
