"Jalus or jalu or ja-lus-pa- Tibetan - Rainbow Body of Light. The process
that enables the body to be reabsorbed back into the light essence of the
elements that created it."

"Ancient wisdom texts of Tibet, China, and India describe a unique
phenomenon appearing at the time immediately following bodily death in some
spiritual adepts. The "rainbow body" (jalus in Tibetan) is the literal
transformation of the whole person into light, into transcendence. Its
manifestation is considered one of the key signs of spiritual realization
within these traditions. Those rare individuals who manifest the rainbow
body do not leave their bodies behind to rot; rather, the body is
transformed into light.
Despite the awe-inspiring image this engenders, the true significance of the
rainbow body is viewed as spiritual rather than material: It manifests a
life that was deeply and thoroughly authentic, and is the supreme statement
of "spirituality" in the fullest sense of the word. Within Buddhism, reports
of this transformation are rare, but have been chronicled as far back as the
seventh or eighth centuries. The rainbow body is not a uniquely Tibetan
discovery. It was a central aim of Indian Buddhist tantricism (Vajrayana),
and there is an extensive literature: The phenomenon is frequently mentioned
in the hagiographical literature. "
