He's not making this up, you know

I recently visited the new museum in Peenemünde. The old one was
embarrassing as it tended to celebrate the place merely as "Wiege der
Weltraumfahrt" (rumours have it that the Queen was not amused), and DORA
was hardly mentioned. The museum has been very much improved and is now
well worth a visit for its own sake. On what is probably a replica of a
V2, you'll see the "insignia" (sigh, if not his German, one would expect
that this Pynchon guy could at least get his English right) Geli is
probably talking about: A picture of a young woman, naked except for
stockings, sitting sideways on a rocket which, interestingly, carries
the inscription "V4". In front of the rocket, traversing its body, is a
crescent moon, perhaps in homage to Fritz Lang's "Frau im Mond", upon
which the woman might also be sitting. Around this idyllic scenery, some
yellow stars are sprinkled. I don't know if an image is available on the
internet, but I could provide a photograph.

The web site of the museum is www.peenemuende.de. They have a
sub-category called "Die Enden der Parabel" which is the German title of
"Gravity's Rainbow". Unfortunately, it seems that the English version of
the site is not working yet.
