AtD Group Read

To belabor the point (why lie and prepend "not?"), I will refrain from engaging in the group grope. The reading of AtD itself, along with a few other diversions from responsibilities, will keep me busy enough without having my initial impressions of the book corrupted by those of others, which though I may come to esteem them on a subsequent reading, would overwhelm the experience of that first reading, rendering it too much like that of the virgin bride who, on the wedding night, is dismayed to find herself sandwiched between her new husband and his best man, however intent both may be on her pleasure and tutelage.

As I'm not much interested in literary criticism, I have nothing to fear
from the no-doubt brilliant and riveting revelations revealed by the
perfessers on the list. But for me, annotation by group effort is the fun
part. Reading details that others have ferreted out about the historical
context of events in the book, and sharing those that I have discovered
myself, only adds to my enjoyment of a first read. Of course, your mileage
may vary.
