Yeah, the new century is more 50s than the 50s, but in reverse.

So, today it would  probably be impossible for a gifted writer to use  
homosexuality as a metaphor for corruption.

No one would get it.

And,  by extrapolation,  AtD will no doubt use white, male, straight,  
single goal sexuality to stand for where it all went wrong in the  
20th Century.
