I've never seen the latter advanced except by those who take
author-as-publicist/celebrity to be the natural order of things, and
therefore need an "explanation" for anything that doesn't fit. Irwin Corey
said what TRP had to say on that subject 33 years ago; it worked for me
then, and still does.
