Interesting as the discussion has been I can't help feeling that much 
of it amounts to ahistorical analysis. In the early 1970s paedophilia 
was not as thoroughly condemned as it has since become. While the 
suggestions referring to power structures and eroticism may hold 
true, it is just as likely that our fallible author has had an eye 
for the young ladies and that the exchange between Zoyd and Prairie 
in Vineland about the former's transgressive tendency is a sheepish 
mea culpa, an acknowledgement by Pynchon of his dubious weakness.
