R.A. Lafferty

In the endnote of his review of M&D (in French) Jacques Barbéri points out 
that R.A. Lafferty is 'perhaps the closest author to Thomas Pynchon, 
unjustly unrecognised"("Peut-être l'auteur le plus proche de Thomas Pynchon. 
Injustement méconnu"). I don't know this author. According to wiki he wrote 
historical novels and SF. Has anyone read him?
