I also wonder about the acolytes screed us Pynchon readers get tagged with.
Pynchon brings to the table a large amount of things that for anyone curious
leads to more and more innocent investigation of a disparate range of
topics.
we're not reading the Torah but a writer who sparks the imagination to find
out about the world out there. good writing leads to good reading which
leads to other good writing, etc...
one of the things I think that makes Pynchon more attractive than say
Joyce--Joyce wanted you to study him for a lifetime. Pynchon is the
anti-Joyce in that regard
