Yes, never underestimate the role of sheer length. In some reviewers' voices
-- for an Underworld or War and Peace just as much as GR or M&D or AtD -- I
hear the whine of a 15-year-old encountering the first 300+ page Dickens
after a diet of Young Adult book-ettes: "It's so loooooong..."
 
Makes me want to say, ""That's nature's way of telling you you're in the wrong line of work."
