This reviewer LOVED GR, and here's his conclusion (no spoiler) on AtD:

"Against the Day," weighing in at more than 1,100 pages, promised a
return to form for those of us who were still hanging in there.

Forget it, fellow Pynchonians. This isn't "Gravity's Rainbow II." That
time, that place and that writer won't ever come together again.
