Dug _Rabbit, Run_; just put down _Rabbit is Rich_, probably for good, with less than a hundred pages to go. Something about Updike's sensibility just doesn't jive with my own--too parochial, too precious, and, yes, too obsessed with sex. _Of the Farm_ sounds like it might be really good, but it'll be a while before I give Updike the time of day again. There are just too many dynamic writers out there, maximizing rather than minimizing the potential of the art.

Loved the Rabbit books, never managed to finish any other Updike book. But 
when Updike 'does' the 1960s, in 'Rabbit Redux', he gets badly lost, imho, 
and produces some very dull passages too.
