....in a room looking out on the San Francisco Bay and
Golden Gate bridge framed by lush and spreading indoor
rubber and umbrella trees, facing the shelf with the
Pynchon first editions, the blurbed books (first
editions), piano silent until the boy returns....

I use Post-It notes, instead of marking the pages
directly, and a gorgeous, black, cigar-shaped Pelikan
fountain pen.  

Then transfer them to http://pynchonwiki.com, which
went live yesterday - and I hope the rest of you
annotators out there will do the same.
