Pynchon/Vollmann

Some speculation on my part: if Pynchon (according to his letter to Candida 
Donadio) more or less knew what his big novels would be about back in 1963 
(was Vollmann already born?) he could hardly have been influenced by him as 
to the overall design of M&D and AtD. So far I haven't read anything by 
Volmann, but looking forward to it. In case of M&D I am more or less sure 
that The Sot-Weed Factor might be a more appropriate influence.
