why Pynchon list is the shit

Just to give two examples--or object lessons, if you prefer: on my Joyce list they're talking about why did Joyce use those dashes in front of his dialogue rather than quotes, and on my Vidal list they're waxing philiosophical, alternately, about Borat and Michael Richards' use of the nigger-word (even though Vidal just came out with a pretty good memoir a couple weeks ago). Oh, man--that's rough. On the Pynchon list, meanwhile, we're talking about Robert Altman, explorers, William T. Vollmann, and a triple-chocolate strawberry-swirl cheesecake of a novel from Thomas Pynchon. Just because it's a (relatively) small thing doesn't mean it's not worth giving thanks about.
