I for one am not gonna try evaluating TRP's short pieces ---
particularly those skewed towards biography and reportage, instead of
fiction --- by the same standards as I evaluate his novels.  Here,
just as in the SL intro and arguably the ATD blurb, he's aiming to
create plate glass rather than a mosaic.  There isn't enough space to
arrange all those tiny colored pieces, so there's no particular reason
to judge him by the Mosaic Law. . . .
