After finishing the first part I personally feel that the language employed 
by Pynchon is still pretty tough in some places and I have to rummage in 
dictionaries to determine the meaning of certain words. Pynchon did his 
homework well and uses some quite rare (at least to me) words not to mention 
all the scentific terms, I think 'Dickens with a degree in chemistry and 
physics' is a very felicitous characterisation. In some places I also find 
strange stylistic 'lapses' (like the repetition of the word 'elfin') might 
be P.'s intentional immitation of 'bad style' of pulp lit.
