To me, this was a pretty clear riff on the "Breatharians", who claim
to live without eating.

James Randi, magician and skeptic, has for several years offered a
Million Dollar Challenge to anyone who can demonstrate "evidence of
any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power or event". No money has
yet been paid. Amateurs generally step up to the plate gladly, agree
upon a testing protocol and then fail --- often to their
consternation, since they had genuinely believed they possessed some
beyond-the-quotidian ability. Professionals who already have thriving
careers on the Tube either studiously ignore the challenge or advance
elaborate reasons why obtaining scientific proof of their abilities is
beneath them.

Randi has stated that Breatharianism is among the few claims which
will not be tested. The idea is goddamn ludicrous, and he doesn't
want his foundation or himself tangled up in a pointless test which
could easily get somebody hurt.

Which hasn't stopped people making a fuss.

And for the entertainment value --

-- which is much how my father taught me Tarot, back when I was a
little munchkin of a book-lover.
