ATD Where is Pynchon's editor?

At least two kinds of editors, in my experience.  One 
kind starts marking up copy without having read the
whole thing.  The other kind reads through it and
takes care to try to understand what the writer was
after, then makes suggestions for revisions.  I much
prefer working with the latter.  Fewer occasions to
have to put stuff back in  that an over-hasty editor
might have cut out before reading the whole piece,
less need to explain things that  may be self-evident
later on, & etc.
