Mount AtD

Well, after two weeks of climbing I've finally reached the summit of Mount
AtD - without oxygen (but sturdy sherpas had to carry me part of the way).
I've got to say that the view from the top is absolutely spectacular. Some
of the climbing has been a bit uneven, but the final part of the ascent was
simply astonishing, and after all has been said and done I'm ready to argue
that only Mount GR is taller than this one.

Dropping the lame mountaineering metaphor, I also have to say that my
initial idea that this is Pynchon's last novel has only been strengthened by
reading the book. Pynchon does indeed single up all lines, and AtD is a
natural summation of what has come before. "Well full fuckin circle" one of
the characters pronounces at the end of the book, and this seems to hold
true both for this character's life, for AtD, and for Pynchon's collected
novels. If we disregard Lot 49 from the series of novels (Pynchon himself
calls it a "story") Pynchon's career begins with V. and the early 20th
Century, continues with GR and World War II, moves on to Vineland and the
60'es and 80'es (and the end of the westerning tendency); moves back to the
beginning of the westward drive with M&D, and moves forward again with AtD
which overlaps with V. (and overtly refers to V. in the final section). The
snake bites it own tail, and Pynchon has come "full fuckin circle" - hard to
see where he can go from here.
