Understood.  Your point is, let me add, quite a good one.  (A while
back on NABOKV-L, someone mentioned handing out the "Charles Kinbote
award for literary criticism" to a particularly obtuse critic.  I
think we could make the Charlies an annual affair!)  As is my wont, I
decided to take your comments off in a different and probably
irrelevant direction, hence the "ha ha only serious" (hacker jargon
for half-joking or perhaps half-witted).
