Anybody who takes a minute to check it out will be
pleasantly surprised, I think, at how useful it is to
use http://pynchonwiki.com already as an aid to
reading Against the Day -- in addition to a fairly
complete index to the novel, many of the index entries
have already been annotated to some degree. And
Discussion pages have been opened for some items, too,
where longer form interpretation can take place.

Until the past few days, most if not all of this work
was done single-handledly by Tim Ware, carrying on in
the same spirit that led him to do a similar job with
Gravity's Rainbow back in the day, and follow with
other Pynchon indexes, too.

Pretty impressive, imo, likewise with similar
incredibly useful online resources like Otto's site,
the Pynchon stuff in The Modern Word, and others.
These are all the result, essentially, of heroic
individual efforts to help the rest of us Pynchon
readers. The cool thing about http://pynchonwiki.com,
imo, is that the rest of us can now contribute
directly to an editorial database devoted to ATD and,
soon, the rest of Pynchon's novels.

Certainly some friction will emerge and bones of
contention will surface on one or another topic, but I
expect that people will figure out how to deal with
it.

It's already happening, of course, even as the p-list
palaver goes on about it - well over 100 contributors
working on http://pynchonwiki.com already, I believe,
and I'm sure they will welcome your great ideas, too,
should you care to join them.

You can still post the usual crap here, of course, as
well as the gems that make Pynchon-l worthwhile.
