Yes!  If anyone is looking for a recommendation try "Independent 
People,"  one of my all-time favorite novels and up there along with 
Mahfouz'  The Cairo Trilogy and Gabriel Garcia Marquez'  Hundred Days 
of Solitude for other Nobel greats.

Nobel quality)
