Dies Irae

Yes, it's Handbook of Drawing. It is in two volumes in the original edition
imitating those huge drawing textbooks, you know, "teach yourself to draw
animals, human anatomy, etc." It will definetely be translated into several
languages. The reviews have been diametrically opposite. But, in my opinion,
one of the plotlines mentioned in the reviews in which an artist falls in
love with a raped ferret has something of Gogol's absurdity which is, in a
way, proto-Pynchonian. It has also been said that the language is rather
baroque. Well, as I see it the main idea of the novel has been to
investigate how it has become possible nowadays that what the author
beleives to be very marginal art, not to say anti-art, has become
mainstream. It's like, asking oneself question why, figuratively speaking,
for many people Duchamp's urinal is more important than Mona Lisa, but, of
course, it's not that simple. Anyway I haven't read it, so can't say much
yet.
