Female Pynchons?

Yes,  "The Last Samurai" was a pretty good book,  multi-layered, 
thick and  well-written but I think it could have stood some serious 
editing.   I'd compare it to Safran's "Extremely  Loud and Incredibly 
Close" without the sentimentality and humor.     In both books a 
highly intelligent male child is seeking his father.
