NP: The Road

Okay,  I read Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" this afternoon.   It's a 
quick read,  intensely compelling.   But I don't like The Road 
anywhere near as well as I liked Blood Meridian.   It's more  barren 
and violent than anything  I've ever read and the poetry isn't there. 
That said,  The Road is interesting,  especially considering the 
thrust of McCarthy's prior work.   In a  sense,  it might be seen as 
a slight change for the somewhat more optimistic.  (Note the 
qualifiers.)
