Okay, I read Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" this afternoon. It's a
quick read, intensely compelling. But I don't like The Road
anywhere near as well as I liked Blood Meridian. It's more barren
and violent than anything I've ever read and the poetry isn't there.
That said, The Road is interesting, especially considering the
thrust of McCarthy's prior work. In a sense, it might be seen as
a slight change for the somewhat more optimistic. (Note the
qualifiers.)
