Some from the list may remember my name.A couple things brought you
folks to mind recently. First my daughter read V and was pretty
jazzed about it , which led to some long enjoyable conversations. So
I mentioned the list to her.

Second was hearing yesterday that Orhan Pamuk won the Nobel for Lit,
and recalling that I mentioned his name on the list after reading My
Name is Red and Snow and saying I thought he would eventually win a
Nobel. Didn't think it would happen so fast. There is a reprint in
the new Nation by Pamuk about Europe, Turkey, and the novel. It is
noteworthy that the major sticking point on Turkey joining the E.U.
is Turkey' s willingness to acknowledge the Armenian genocide and
that Pamuk was almost jailed for doing so and urging Turkey to do
so. Not only is Pamuk at the nexus of one of the great cultural
crises of our time,he has guts, he can really write and has a knack
for taking apart and reassembling a story to uncover both its nuances
and its blunt monstrosity.
So when is this new Pynchon Book coming out ?
