I've had 'em.  First hit big down south/Up North
(depending) back in the days of Madchester, as I
recall.   Me, I shouldn't be eating anything fried,
deep, battered, or otherwise, but we have been burning
throuigh the Popeye's coupons of late (working toward
30 pcs. + 10 fries + 10 apple pies + 10 biscuits for
$25, after which I'll be writing from the IC unit
and/or the grave), but this reminds me, friend who've
sinced moved used to throw crepe parties, they'd make
the crepes, you brought your own filling.  Mine:
Ho-Ho's.  Or, as thus Frenchified, Oh-Ho-Ho's ...
