Not exactly a glowing review. It essentially says the novel's
strengths outweigh its weaknesses, but that its greatest weaknesses
are:

"reads like half a dozen books duking it out "

"recurring themes threaten to become tics"

"Pynchon's own aesthetic sometimes works against him"

But that "another never-before-seen phrase, or effect" saves the day.
Essentially saying that the overwroght themes or characters are recued
by the beautiful prose.

At least that's how this review reads to me.

And BTW, how could anyone read this whole book in what seems like less
than two weeks?
