we all remember Jefferson overhearing Dixon's toast in Virginia and
scribbling down for future use in Declaration of Independence.

Came across this tidbit in the Washington Monthly, nov 8 issue

The author of the Virginia Declaration of Rights, which apparently Jefferson
read and plagiarized from when writing the DoI, was George Mason.

as noted in the magazine--Jefferson was the better writer but it was Mason's
ideas.

if this has been mentioned before, my apologies. but pretty neat
coincidence and maybe a wink by Pynchon
