Chemistry: family portraits

A fine weblog entry from Derek Lowe, a pharmaceutical chemist.

"That's about as bad as it gets inside the confines of inorganic chemistry -
to get crazier, you have to trespass into organicky things like azides. "

Reminiscent in tone of some GR passages about Liebig, Kekule, etc. and a
reminder that TRP was far from initiator or only begetter of the deliberate
pathetic fallacy w/r/t the habits, temperament, etc. of molecules or classes
of compounds. Chemiists quite routinely think and talk (though rarely write)
this way. The extent to which that's "survival" of alchemical thinkling is
up for grabs.
