How about just taking the time to edit the quoted text for relevancy. Many will use <snip> as a place holder for deleted text. I even delete some of the redundant header info from the header of the message(s) that I am quoting, as I did below.
While we're discussing netiquette, how about deleting the email addresses of individuals from "To:" and "Cc:" when "replying to all." When you don't, people get the message from the list server and they also get it directly, i.e. twice.
Oh, yeah. Please change the subject in the header of emails when and only when... the subject being discussed substantially changes. :-)
