seems to sorta suggest the photographic effect known as contra jour, white
background, pronounced lettering in black in foreground, but that red seal,
stamp or symbol surely such things do not bode well

bloody, soul-selling, death-sentence, law-locking, secrets, cabals, or
punishment.  yikes...
