I've seen Eichinger and Tykwer last night on a talk show. They had not
much to tell about the movie which was relevant. Seems as if Dustin
Hoffman isn't easy to work with, Tykwer was delighted by him and
Eichinger was glad to have had Tykwer . . .
The following reviewer is criticizing that too:
"Dustin Hofman, der sich im Alter zunehmend rampensäuisch am eigenen
Spiel erfreut, verleiht dieser Nebenfigur mit rot geschminkten
Bäckchen und weiß gepudertem Teint etwas Clowneskes, ja
Charlie-Rivel-haftes. (...)"
She claims he plays like a "limelight hog" and clownesque.
But she mostly criticises that Tykwer has no own "images" for the
story and that he is showing Ben Whishaw's nose too much:
"Das Parfum ist das Werk eines beflissenen Illustrators, der den Roman
nicht als Pforte zur eigenen Vorstellungswelt zu nutzen weiß."

Tom Tykwer hat Patrick Süskinds Bestseller »Das Parfum« verfilmt. Eine
