Funny, this word.  I looked up the "other" version, "pampliset,"
yesterday in my online array of dictionaries ( http://www.onelook.com/
) and it wasn't listed in any of them.  But "palimpsest" was offered
as an alternative.

What's funny, though, is that "pampliset" seems to have become a very
popular substitute spelling (just Google it to see this is so), and
was the word I've always heard/seen.  It's easier to pronounce, and
thus I would assume has been its genesis.  So why haven't any
dictionaries caught on to this?
