Chimera I found most accessible, of all his books that I've read so far(except maybe funhouse) - pure pleasure
--- also, found a book by Mahfouz at the library "Thousand Nights and Days", and it's not very thick.
---- and am looking into Pasolini (thanks, p-list), but instead of buying his 1001 Nights, I decided to start with the Decameron, several of his films are available at moderate prices
(though "Fitzwilly" is >60 dollars on Amazon, darn it!)
what David Kipen said in SFGate about Hunter Thompson and Hemingway (their reputations suffer by their suicide) seems equally true of Pasolini (mutatis mutandis) Apparently the murder confession was recently retracted, especially the most lurid part.
