Vargas Llosa - Feast of the Goat (and much more earlier work)
Sebald - Austerlitz
Eugenides - Middlesex
Bachelder - Bear v Shark, U.S.

Powers - Plowing the Dark
Kunzru - The Impressionist

Arthur Nersesian is worth a look.  Back into the 90s, so is Lawrence Norfolk.

Sedaris is enjoyable but light, Foer lighter.  I liked Eggars' big one
but it would be easy to be so annoyed by his manner as to stop early.
