I enjoyed House of Leaves, though I agree that it
flagged in the 2nd half. It's very difficult to make
a great book about someone losing themselves in a
labyrinth (one of the truly impressive things about
GR). It was designed well enough to compel me through
the occasionally flagging narrative, but it certainly
doesn't rise to the level of great art.
If you, like me share an unfortunate fascination (and
disgust) with self-referential narratives with Mr.
Danieliewski, you'll have a good time. I'll probably
read his new book when it comes out in paperback,
though I'm much, much more excited about Gene Wolfe's
latest, TRP's growing monster, and Dickens. I've
neglected Dickens for too long.
