Definitely The Recognitions. I have a constant debate in my mind as
to whether The Recognitions or GR should truly be considered the best
of the last half of the 20th century.
To make an admission, I've not yet gotten through JR. For some reason
he always loses me within the first 50 pages but maybe I've just been
trying to rush it. Many seem to hold it in higher esteem than The
Recognitions. It's something about the way the settings change / when
people enter / leave the room, etc. I didn't have the same problem
with Frolic of His Own in the least.
