The other night I picked up out of a box near my bed a paperback
_Herzog_ .  I ended up tossing it right back in after about thirty
minutes. The way his thoughts, speech, and scribblings were portrayed
was giving me one of those "Jesus, nobody talks that way!" spasms.   I
quite liked Humboldt's Gift, though, when I read it a few years ago.
