A long time ago I worked at DeLauer's Newsstand at the
corner of 14th and Broadway, downtown Oakland, and we
got a shipment of the cheesiest paperbacks once a
week, along with the tabloids and romance magazines,
barely mid-list if that. Some great, pulpy stuff. Wish
I remembered the name of the distributor.
That's the store that used to have the True Romance
magazines on the opposite side of a rack from the
girlie mags, so you'd get two rather distinct groups
of customers browsing on either side of it. Kind of
funny to watch sometimes.
Speaking of cheesy, you could do worse than put the
Shaw Bros. "Black Magic" in your Netflix queue, some
really creepy stuff in amongst the cheese, too.
