I'm sorry, but I posted this link without explanation earlier, I'll post it again.
This is Creeping Fig:

It's a vine that you see a fair amount in "Vineland", and though it's not native to California, it's the sort of plant you see a lot of in the "Emerald Triangle". Creeping Fig, in addition to being a hardy climber can also make for a fairly dense ground cover.
