The topic reminds me of a certain Lem-novel:
Wizja lokalna (1982) - Ijon Tichy novel about the planet Entia. Not
translated into English.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanis%C5%82aw_Lem#Fiction
"Lokaltermin" in German where Ijon Tichy quotes a certain scientist
from the planet Entia about humans and gravity. This Professor
Schimpanser says that for "Manschen" (this is an alien speaking about
humans he only knows from recorded tv) the gravity is the embodiment
of the evil, and that the human sexes have different parts of the body
to fight gravity. For unknown reasons the females have to fight
gravity permanently, males only temporarily. As long as the females
are successful in fighting gravity they are respected by the males.
This is very unfair because the males only demonstrate their ability
to fight gravity occasionally, and for a short time . . .
