Wicks and Ives drift from discussing Maskelyne and Mason to the
relationship of the study of the infinite in mathematics to religion.

vw#137: fluxions - derivatives relative to time.

Mason says that Ulster reminds him of the frontier portions of
America. He is talking to Lord Pennycomequick, who is described as a
"global-communications nabob."

Mason comes upon a long double row of obelisks forming a visto.
Lord Pennycomequick suggests it is ruins of ancient architecture. Armand
Allegre suddenly appears and greets Mason.

Mason is pressed into service of rescuing the peat bogs from
being flooded. The sod has to be dug up and moved to a safer place.
Mason is not happy with this task.
